This profile duplicates the
Winchester 147 grain bullet developed for subsonic use in silenced submachine
guns. It was also loaded to some very high pressure (+P+) loadings on special
contract to some law enforcement agencies in the early days of law enforcement's
conversion to 9mm. This was an attempt to overcome many of the 9mm's shortcoming
as a defensive round. The cast version gave the departments an economical
practice round. Sub-machine gun owners also liked the cast version for the
economy and as an added bonus the cast versions were giving the barrels of these
guns an extended life span. The H&K MP5 was one of the most popular of these sub
machine guns that could not have the barrels easily replaced. Extended barrel
life was an important issue on a gun that cost several thousand dollars. .....
Most 9mm reloaders do not normally use a bullet of this weight as most do not
want this much recoil. The reloaders that have explored the potential of the
cast version of this bullet have discovered that this may be the most accurate
of any 9mm bullets that they have ever tried. The long bearing surface coupled
with the extended boat tail base has turned in one hole size group performances.
If you are a serious reloader for the 9mm then this bullet deserves a look. Full
auto rated for sustained fire applications.
